Watching it from School

It was great being able to watch it at school. There's a new sense of patriotism doing so.

I would have loved to be able to seen it live at D.C. but I'm an introverted person and big crowds don't excite me. Plus, it wouldn't be like I was up close and personal seeing everything as though I was right next to the president-elect.

Being able to watch it at school was good enough for me because I was able to be surrounded by other Americans who were participating in their responsibilities. I was able to watch teachers teach students, and students learn more about our country. I was able to find my own story for when my children and grandchildren ask me "where were you when Obama was inaugurated?" I was able to see teachers and students and aides and everyone come together and stop what they were doing for a few periods to watch something that will go down in history.

And, what's more. I did it while wearing my red, white, and blue stripes&stars Converse. Haha =)

The Morning Of

For Government, it was obvious that we were going to watch the inauguration. Only predicament? It was 8:00am and not that much was going on. We watched C-SPAN live in the room and waited for some form of life. Mostly there were pictures and feeds of D.C. with people patiently waiting to be let in and streets bustling with people. I was one of the students who was waiting anxiously to see some form of life of the Obama family, but unfortunately found nothing. The camera was staying on the Blaire House, with the cars waiting in the front. It was quite boring at first, because the anticipation was incredible. I felt like security, studying closely the television with my eyes for something to interest me.

I saw the bell was just about to ring as my eyes glanced to the clock, and I was quite upset. No sights of the Obamas. The second before the bell rang Michelle and Barack showed up on the screen, very visible from peripheral vision with Michelle's yellow Isabel Toledo outfit.

After that second, I was so pumped and ready to watch more Obama inauguration feeds. It was just so exciting for me because there I was, watching the new president become the new president. More in the next blog.

It's Finally Here!

I'm so sorry I haven't written lately. I feel terrible I haven't but after not writing in it for so long, I felt stupid to just start again. But I am here to say sorry for my mistakes of not writing and I will write more now.

It's finally here. I'm so glad. I had the opportunity to watch it happen at school, which was really nice. I'm going to write everything one by one. So here goes!

Are You an Aide?

President-elect Obama has received a lot of support throughout the couple of years that he has been running for president, and of course a lot of work was put in by his secretaries and he. But that's not all.

Anyone of the readers of this blog (along with a few million) have helped in making Obama as successful as he is, and it has to do with the internet. Those on the internet that support him and join groups of him, have made it possible for him to gain so much.

Those that were surveyed from an online network for Obama said they would easily make calls and help out as much as they could to get policies they felt was fit for him. According to a poll done by the Pew Research Center for People and the Press, 59 percent of the Nov. 4 voters took park in his campaign online through email-sending and political-blog reading, along with a few other tactics.

Clearly, Obama is being helped by more than we could even see.

Obama's Sense of Humor is Seen Through Bowling

President-elect Barack Obama may be good at certain things pertaining to our nation, but bowling may not be one of them. For a little fun, Obama went to a bowling outing in Pennsylvania, where he knocked down only 37 pins with the assistance of an 8-year-old.

While he thought that the jokes of this normally unsuccessful game would be put aside, they had continued to linger as he went to Hawaii on vacation during the holiday season. While there, his golfing was also joked about, referencing the not-so-great score he received while bowling.

He is expected to arrive back in Chicago on Jan. 1.

Obama Takes Action, Even as a Doll

You can buy Barack Obama for $12.95. Let's not get crazy though, only his doll.

Yes, that's right. Barack Obama is now an action figure, thanks to the manufacturing of New Jersey's Jailbreak Toys.

The dolls have been flying off the shelves as kids and parents left and right buy these as gifts. And children absolutely love them. The action figure is fully pose-able and apparently has large ears. But hey, this little toy will represent a lot of change. And I don't mean in cents.

Letters to Obama

This year, kids will be too busy writing their wish lists to Obama, instead of the traditional letter to Santa Clause. How will they get their letters out there you may ask? Simple. Through the New York Daily News.

On December 14, an ad was posted by the Daily News in their own paper stating that they would be giving kids 16 and under the possibility to write to their new president. Of course they will have to write this letter and send it through their teacher though.

After the letters are written, they will be delivered by the Daily News to the famous address of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. A special selected amount will even be published in the paper for the special section of Obama's inauguration on Jan. 20.

Won't Be Moving Yet

Although the Obamas found it ideal for their family to move into the President's guest house, Blair House, in Washington earlier, it seems they won't be ordering those UHauls just yet.

They had wanted to do so in order to have Obama's daughters smoothly transition into their new school when classes started on Jan. 5, but it looks as though they won't be moving in until 10 days later, the official day they would be allowed to move in anyways.

According to the current White House administration, there are previously scheduled events that can not be changed in order for Obama's request.

Obama Assures Public No Connection to Scandal

While people are concocting the idea that Obama had to do with Governor Blagojevich's selling of Obama's Senate seat, the president-elect provides the assurance that he, nor his office, had anything to do with it. Regardless of his promise, he has set up for an inverstigation to take place where he will then share the information with the public.

This isn't helping him move smoothly into the White House, due to the fact that people are starting to question his ability to maintain his idea of change to America. Nothing has been seen relating to wrongdoing by Obama, as has been stated in Yahoo today.

Economy to Rise Eventually

President-elect Barack Obama stated earlier that the United State's economy will not be immediately healed once he is in office. Obama feels that it will be a long and potentially painful process in order to get the economy back on the right track. He actually sees the possibility of the economy becoming worse after his stimulus plan is instated.

"We've got to provide a blood infusion to the patient right now to make sure that the patient is stabilized. And that means that we can't worry short term about the deficit. We've got to make sure that the economic stimulus plan is large enough to get the economy moving,” said Obama in an interview.

The economy is at a low level standstill that has yet to recover from Congress' $700 billion bailout months ago. According to Yahoo News, a report given on Friday about job allocation states that 533,000 jobs were lost in November and that the unemployment rate in the U.S is at 6.7 percent – a record high in the past couple of years. Obama believes that the car makers must survive their current financial issues but also criticizes the companies for not striving to be more competitive.

Obama told reporters in Chicago that, “I am absolutely confident that if we take the right steps over the coming months, that not only can we get the economy back on track, but we can emerge leaner, meaner and ultimately more competitive and more prosperous."

4. The Black Snob: This is a blog I found thanks to Dawn, and it is extremely informative. In fact, I was kind of hoping one day Oblogma could be as successful as hers is. It has interesting information and seems to be run by a really great person who does a phenomenal job keeping up to date with the events.

A Great Writer and A Great Moment

I read this post by a woman who had attended Election Night in Illinois, and it was quite powerful. She wrote such great words and had such great pictures, I truly enjoyed reading it. And the way she described the atmosphere and the woman she encountered was also wonderful.

The post she wrote really shows, beyond the great victory Obama won, or the history he made, but the hope he has instilled in certain people, and that, I think, matters quite a lot. I hope to find more posts like this that I can write about because this was really incredible.

Terrorism won't end. Unless we make it.

The facts and figures are coming in on the Mumbai bombing, and it doesn't look good. India is a major trade partner for America, more or less, the brute financial engine. If American investors become wary of such an attack and begin to invest less, it will not only hurt them, but also hurt our economy.

Based on this simple fact, its time to face the possibility that such an attack was a trial for a larger attack in an American city. Hopefully, that won't ever happen, but it has become a bigger possibility. We are still not safe from the hands of terrorists who are becoming braver every time around, now looking their victims in the eyes and tasting the hatred.

Therefore, the Obama administration has to step up and end its relationship with a state that sponsors terrorism as part of its foreign policy. There have been several links to the Pakistani government ever since the attack, and it's becoming more apparent everyday.

Recently, Rice has worked out a compromise between Pakistan and India that will force the Pakistani state to deal with known training camps. There also have been several reports by the New York Times supporting the theory that Pakistan is funneling humanitarian aid money for weapons creation.

The Obama administration is the only one that can broker a deal. Its nice that he's visiting India, but Obama needs to do more. He needs to state it loud and clear that nations that fund terror must be stopped, because ultimately, these terrorists want to kill Americans as they proved in this attack. They don't care about Indians and centuries old feuds.

If Obama stands up and condemns the causes of these attacks, and urges continued investment in India's booming economy, he can ensure a stronger economy and better relations with a key ally in such a volatile region.

Russia Warms Up to American President-Elect

Although with each new turn in political power there is a sense of change, it never seems to be in Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's favor. However, with the days slowly coming to a close in order to meet with the anticipation of the president-elect's inauguration, change is occurring for both Americans' and Putin's thoughts.

Apparently Putin is usually more rash with his words towards American political policies, but after hearing that America may be kinder to Russia and her concerns after Obama becomes President, nothing less than warmth was shared.

Putin may no longer be president, and work more on the economy in Russia, but he still regularly meets with foreign leaders.

If Obama does plan to work nicely and take into consideration Russia's concerns, Putin and his country may be a little happier and in return, so will we.

Historic Inauguration Open to the People!

On January 20, 2009, Obama will be sworn in as the 44th president of the United States of America. For this big occassion, so far over a million people have been estimated to show up.

It has now been decided that because of such an escalated number of viewers will show up in D.C. that the National Mall will be open to the people. The Mall, which is 2.5 miles long, will be filled with speakers and screens for those too far away to see the history in front of their faces.

From your television set to the real thing, and even to the large screen two and a half miles back, Obama's historic inauguration will most certainly be accessable to view.

Now that the election is over, the hype is winding down, but should it? Obama is more than a passing phenomenon, he is to be the president of our nation. He will forever be in our children's textbooks. However, that is not the justification for which to like him; it's more of a point I would like to remind people. Moreover, Obama is a message to our generation. Every generation of Americans finds someone to believe in their youth. Ronald Reagan, for example, was one of the most notable ones. Obama is our head of state and should rightly be considered our person. He fought an uphill battle, and even though we have plenty of time to sit down and learn about this man, and infinite resources to do so, many people refuse to. Maybe its time for our generation to think how we can better the world by learning about him, because, who knows, one day we may look back and be proud of the times we lived in.

All will be reminded that almost anything difficult can be accomplished every second Monday in November. How, you may ask? By celebrating "The Barack Obama Day" in an Alabama county known as Marion of course. Those who celebrate the annual holiday will be able to remember the victory Obama conquered.

Those who live in the county (which had 70% of the people voted Obama in the election) will be able to have offices closed and approximately 40 workers will be getting paid as if it were a holiday, because it is!

Obama to the Rescue of Governors

Obama filled the hopes of many governors when he said he would be sure to take action from the federal government. They felt as though he really would take care of them, and he has befriended many, giving some positions in his cabinet. And he's met with them so early in this term before becoming the actual president.

His ideas include taking care of the roadways, bridges, schools, and other projects. As of now, many states are in dire need of help, finding themselves to be in shortfalls. By the summer, the $30 billion that has been projected will double. And quadruple in spending gaps. They're also required to balance themselves by themselves, and annually.

Governors feel they do need help, and Obama is there to rescue.

Facebook for Obama Lives On

Facebook was a great source for people to come together and talk about Obama and support his cause as running for President. Although the election is obviously over, and Obama has successfully won, people are still using Facebook as a source to get their words and thoughts out there.

Recently, a cause group has been formed for President Obama to fix the drug policy. Along with all the other changes people feel are necessary, a shift in drug policy has been added to the list. This new drug policy is wanted to form a better model, instead of where it has been lately.

The people in this group have formed a petition to have Obama create a position for a "Drug Czar" who will focus on the issues of drugs.

Obama's Presidential Ways

President-elect Obama had been recently compared to FDR, in the way he is currently going about this two-month period between being a president-elect and a president.

Similar to FDR, Obama is the president-elect during a time of turmoil. The only difference is he is going about it much differently. After all, the country has not been in such an economic crisis in 75 years.

What Obama is currently doing is making plans with details that he will speak about later. Also, he is coming together with Bush to discuss certain topics. FDR had refused to speak with then President Hoover because he felt people would then think he was a part of the Depression. Obama's mentality is quite different.

Although Obama has about two months to wait until he is officially the president, he is certainly not wasting any time. He is the first president-elect to have determined an economic team so soon.

He went so far as to send two representatives to a conference to observe for him; they took no role though. They didn't want to overstep their boundaries as there is "only one president at a time."

An Early Congress Catches the Worm

Recently, Democratic party leaders, including Obama, have been requesting an up shift in the date of Congress' inauguration. Obama and others see this as a necessary action due to the current economic state of the nation. The date will have been moved from late January up to earlier in the month to counterbalance the huge potential failures of big corporations in January.

Obama deems this up shift necessary to inject a new “stimulus plan” into our economy. This plan, according to Obama and economic advisors, is an economic boost the economy needs in order to survive and eventually prosper. The stimulus plan involves creating 2.5 million new jobs.

"It is going to be of a size and scope that is necessary to get this economy back on track," Obama said. "I want to see it enacted right away." Some economic experts say that the plan could grow into a 700 billion dollar project; a figure once given for the bailouts just weeks ago.

President-elect Obama wants to have his economic team have this plan ready by the time he gets into office. If the plan succeeds, the economy could get the boost that it desperately needs.

Head of the Congressional Budget Office Chosen

Obama will announce tomorrow for selecting Peter Orszag as director of the Office of Management and Budget.

Orszag worked under Clinton's administration and is head of the Congressional Budget Office, a title he will have to give up once he becomes a part of Obama's economic team.

Other teammembers include: New York Federal Reserve President Tim Geithner as treasury secretary and former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers as chief of the National Economic Council.

Speculation continues on spots such as the chair of the President's Council of Economic Advisers, director of the Domestic Policy Council, deputy director of the Domestic Policy Council, and secretary of commerce. Positions may possibly be given to University of California-Berkeley economics professor Christina Romer, Melody Barnes, Heather Higginbottom, and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, respectively.

These people share the same views as Obama, which is to have a strong Main Street in order to have a strong Wall Street.

Help for Citigroup Makes Stocks Rise

As could already be determined, stocks weren't doing so well lately. But after Obama chose New York Federal Reserve chief Timothy Geithner as the next treasury secretary, the market was quite pleased.

The government decided Sunday night to give $20 billion to Citigroup in hope that they would be able to help our economy. $306 billion was guaranteed in risky assets.

Auto Companies Not Getting a Brake

The auto companies asked for 25 million dollars, something that would be considered as another bailout plan, to help save them from this economic crisis they're facing, but Obama and Congress wouldn't oblige quite yet. Congress told them that they need to come up with a better plan if they want the cash.

But these auto companies, that have been considered the pride of the automotive land, are surely dwindling in economic displeasures.

Congress' reason? Taxpayers shouldn't have to fix automotives' problems.

The owners of these three top businesses aren't taking the blame however, saying that it's not their fault they're also in a time of crisis, with the rest of America.

Obama recognized the seriousness of the case, but refuses to hand over a "blank check" to these businesses. He plans to have this automobile industry working harder to fix the problem, and to prepare for an energy and eco-friendly way of driving.

In the meantime, money, and jobs, are running empty.

Obama Brings Hope to US and Foreigners

The United States of America has been known as one of the, if not the, most influential countries in America. Since Obama has been elected to be the next president, other countries have instilled in us hope for more. In fact, they're considering Obama's seat in the White House on January 20th as a welcoming to multilaterism.

Other countries in the world, such as China and India, are growing in size and with that, a need for a global balance comes.

Foreign Secretary of London, David Miliband, came to the conclusion that America is going to have to give up some power, but the other growing countries are going to have to gain some as well -- therefore taking responsibility.

"We either tackle shared risks together, with shared power, or we don't tackle them at all. And the modern case for multilateralism is that without it, not just order but also freedom is under threat," said Miliband.

Putting Auto-Saving Plan in Drive

Congress has recognized that the job problem is only getting worse, and therefore has agreed to extend benefits to unemployment. The last time the need for unemployment benefits was that high was July of 1992. Obama feels this is just a greater example of how he needs to step in.

His plan? Create 2.5million jobs by 2011. This includes rebuilding roads and modes of transportation, fixing schools, and coming up with energy-efficient aspects of life.

Obama addressed this plan in his weekly Democratic radio address.

He asks that if people have suggestions or ideas to let him know.

"But what is not negotiable is the need for immediate action," the president-elect said.

Hillary R. Clinton will be accepting the title as Secretary of State, if Obama's hopes come true, after Thanksgiving.

This will make her even more so the most successful former first lady in the country, adding to her credentials her 8-year seat at Senate and former-presidential nominee. Obama feels the positive aspects of her potential position of Secretary of State are far greater than any downfall such as the complicated international affairs held for her foundation and her husband.

Barack Obama has been coming to a conclusion lately with who he wants in the cabinet. Currently, he is looking at who he wants to control the Homeland Security Department, and it seems he wants Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano.

Napolitano is very experienced in the act of public services, as she has been an attorney general, prosecutor, and governor. Along with these credentials, she feels quite strongly on hot topics such as immigration, child abuse, and Republicans.

This isn't just any job she would put on her resume. Running the Homeland Security Department entails a lot of responsibility, such as being in charge of the third-largest, and newest, department in Obama's cabinet.

The department began after the attack on September 11, 2001. As you could have guessed, the HSD takes control and monitors actions that could be detrimental to the health and lives of the citizens of our country. Duties include protecting the borders, studying spreading diseases, protecting the president and other important leaders, responding to disasters, protectng means of transportation and even internet. Many also know the head of the HSD as the person to inform the country when the alert level has changed.

She has dealt with many issues, from wildfires, to Sen. McCain's wife's legal issues, to immigration, and as head of the HSD, she would have to deal with a lot more.

Columbia University's First U.S. President

While Columbia College has had many a successful leaders, including Alexander Hamilton and John Jay, never had they had a leader become president of the United States America. Not until Barack Obama, of course.

Yes, Obama will be bringing more change than we thought; both to the country and the status of the 254-year old university's list of leaders.

In addition, this legend will be bringing along with him a fellow Columbia College graduate, if the word in politics is correct, Eric Holder, as his attorney general.

Columbia College is a smaller part of the Ivy League school, Columbia University, located in New York.

Daschle Serves as the Secretary of HHS

Obama has selected Senate Majority Leader Thomas Daschle as the Secretary of the Health and Human Services. He will be officially this title once the Congress has verified of his worthiness for the position.

The president-elect and Senator Majority Leader knew each other from when Obama was Senator, and have remained close. When Daschle co-wrote his book, "Critical: What We Can Do about the Health-Care Crisis," Obama helped promote it with a few words of acceptance.

As Secretary of the HHS, the 59-year-old Democrat will, if authorized, be working with a large amount of people to fix the healthcare program. This includes being given a policy portfolio that has roles to be distributed amongst everyone in the department in order to reform legislation next year. He will have under him 65,000 employees in 11 operating divisions.

His budget? $707.7 billion.

Programs that will be apart of his responsibilities include the Medicare and Medicaid programs, Food and Drug Administration, public health programs and government research at the National Institutes of Health.

He will also help to reduce costs as Obama had promised to bring prices down on healthcare for families by $2,500.

Daschle will be replacing Mike Leavitt from Bush's cabinet.

Climate Change Resolutions Come to Washington

Barack Obama, who recently stepped down from his seat as Senator of Illinois, is looking to have a lot of things change once he comes to Washington's White House. One of his resolutions for the beginning of his first presidential year includes taking charge on the issue of climate change.

Obama feels that the issue has not been discussed enough in Washington and he will bring the topic up much more. He commends those that have been trying to fight the problem.

On November 18, 600 climate change leaders joined in Los Angeles to attend the Global Climate Summit. The GCS is a two-day event regarding the climate issue, and was held by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Obama has asked those future attendees of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poznan, Poland to report back to him with information that they have obtained for future use when he comes into office.

President-elect Obama and Republican presidential candidate McCain came together for a meeting on Monday to declare that they would be working together to reform.

Obama, who has been looking for people to have in his cabinet, said he would not go to the extreme point of choosing McCain for his cabinet, as they do not conform on many topics, including the economy.

Nonetheless, they will work together as much as they can to fix this financial crisis and war problem.

So far, questionable people for the cabinet include Sen. Hillary R. Clinton for his Secretary of State. Congressman Rahm Emanuel has been chosen for Obama's Chief of Staff, while current Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was seen speaking with a member of Obama's transition team. Nothing has come from it quite yet.

Obama looks to have members of his own party, the Democrats, but wants to keep in mind the Republican side. With this, he looks to add a Republican to his cabinet.

He and Sen. McCain will be coming together to work on national security, energy, and financial issues.
